It seems that

* I'm not using the right password because I didn't make a correct record of what I used the first time or
* There were unacceptable characters in my password so that I never really logged all the way in.  Are there restrictions on what characters can be used in a password?

Either way, I need to reset the password.  How do I do that?

Also, you didn't answer one of the questions I asked:

Is it necessary to login with something other than "anonymous" in order to make an async query?

Never mind the password reset question.  I was able to reset from this site.
I suspect the problem was the character @.   Although it's included in your list of allowed special characters, I had to take it out of my password to be accepted.

For completeness (when other users might be looking for a similar question):

- You can reset your password here: https://datalab.noirlab.edu/account/reset/
- The password setting form will enforce some rules regarding valid characters. (that's for the pointer regarding the @ character, we will investigate!)
- Yes, you need to be logged in for async queries.
